The Vice – Chancellor of Federal University of Technology,
Minna, Prof. Muhammed Salihu Audu, FMAN has called for more collaboration
between the institution and Global Risk
Forum (GRF), Davos, Switzerland.
Prof. Audu made this call during an interactive meeting with
the President of Global Risk Forum, Dr. Walter Amman at the just concluded
International Disaster and Risk Conference (IDRC) 2012 in Davos.
The VC said capacity building for Centre for Disaster Risk
Management & Development Studies CDRM&DS resource persons,
staff/students exchange, training materials and information sharing as well as
joint research are some of the areas which the institution require more mutual
collaboration with GRF. In his response, Dr. Amman accepted the request of FUT,
Minna and asked the University to prioritize and package areas of needs for
possible intervention by GRF.
GRF prompt areas of assistance include the donation of GRF
publications, linkages of PhD students with degree awarding Universities for
project research and using the platform of GRF forCDRM&DS networking.
Earlier at the
conference, Director of CDRM&DS, Prof. Asimiyu Jinadu presented a paper
titled: “Rural Hazards and Vulnerability Assessment in the Downstream Sector of
Shiroro Dam, Nigeria”and chaired a technical session on Critical Infrastructure
and made a key statement at the “Red Chair” .
FUT, Minna participation at the IDRC 2012 is a further
affirmation of the University’s desire to strengthen its existing relationship
with GRF, Davos, Switzerland.
